circle light

The shortage of skilled workers is one of the biggest challenges facing the Austrian economy. To counteract this problem, the government amended various provisions in the Foreign Nationals Employment Act (AuslBG) and the Settlement and Residence Act (NAG) in 2022.

Jakob Widner, Claudia Csáky and Sarah Micheuz analyze these legal changes in their new article in Corporate Immigration 2024 – A Chambers Global Practice Guide.

Among the most important are:

  1. Changes to the minimum salary for certain key employees/graduates
  2. Adjustment of points awarded for qualifications, work experience and language skills
  3. Introduction of a new type of Red-White-Red Card for regular long-term workers from third countries
  4. Facilitation of the change of employer
  5. Establishment of the Austrian Business Agency ABA – “Work in Austria”, a specialist unit that serves as a platform for advice and support for the admission of skilled and key workers, particularly in the context of the Red-White-Red Card procedure
